Why We Ban Spammers

By Keiichi Morisato

Some of you are probably wondering why we’re so pro-active in announcing frequently that we’re banning certain members. To be fair about it, we don’t just randomly ban members and the reason why certain members get banned is that they’re quickly identified as a Spammer or Spambot.

We simply don’t allow anyone to post or advertise for businesses on our site or on our forums. This not only clogs up our forums with the same topic for the same ad being posted over and over again but they mostly violate our forum rules by posting the same topic in every forum. While the site is funded mainly from my own pocket, combined from some donations that we receive from our members, we simply require advertisers to pay to advertise and when that happens, there are selected areas of the site where those ads can be posted.

Spammers and Spambots are paid by entities who pay them for posting ads on their products on “free forums.” While our accounts are free, we do require anyone who wishes to advertise to pay for that right to advertise their product on our site. We do use a website called Stop Forum Spam. While some spammers and spambots try to create newer usernames and use email addresses that aren’t registered, their IP Addresses never change. When we discover a spamming account through either their username, email or IP address, we then ban that member by IP address and email from the site and it the email and username are new, we submit those accounts as known spammers.

We do make every effort to ensure that someone who isn’t a spammer isn’t being banned and we have a remarkable 100% rate on that front. Through these efforts, we have kept the forums free from these spammers and our forums are a safe environment to interact or post with the rest of our community.
