It's a temporary ad selling AMG manga on the floor of a subway concourse in the Tokyo district of Akihabara (Akiba), a center for manga and anime production and sales. It was placed at least five years ago, which is about the time I discovered the photo on the Internet.

According to our StarBlush, a frequent flyer to Japan, it's a common advertising technique.

That looks like an ad for the AMG original OVA series, I recognize that artwork as the one used for the promotion of the first OVA series that was produced back in the 90's.

Thank you, Morisato, for the clarification.

Inasmuch as the five-episode OVAs were released serially in Japan in 1992 and 1993,

then the floor ad was placed about twenty years ago.

Gee....ancient history.

I think that photo was taken back in the 90's as it was an advertisement for the OVA VHS releases for the original OVA series. What most fans don't realize is that while they may discover certain photos online, it doesn't indicate that when they found the photo that it must be a recent photo. If you notice the date in the photo, "9-23", represents the upcoming release of the original OVAs. I imagine that it's possible that the photo ad could have been used for the laserdisk as well but that ad/image has been widely used for the advertisement promotion for the original OVA series. It's also the same image used for the cover of that elongated "Mook Book" for the OVA series.

After looking at it, it appears that's the advertisement for the DVD release of the original OVA series, which contained two episodes per volume one and two and the final episode for the last DVD.

When the image is magnified to almost full screen (on my 17" laptop), the writing on the circumference becomes clear. Going clockwise from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock, "AH MY GODDESS" is repeated 5 times; going counterclockwise from 9 to 3 reads "DVD BOX- Vol. 1 9.22 ON SALE- Vol.2 10.27 ON SALE- Vol. 3 12.01 ON SALE"

Correction: In the Aug 13 comment, change 'Vol. 3 12.01 ON SALE' to 'Vol. 3 11.24 ON SALE'.
